Non-Traditional Gallery Visitors

  • To create a sense of belonging, use outreach work to involve groups in creating aspects of a display, showing their work alongside the portraits from the gallery's collection (this seems to work better if tackled via organised outreach, rather than, say, advertising in the local press for people to send in their portrait photographs for display.)

Women photography

Young women from Twilight Zone (part of Wearside Women in Need) worked with a photographer and a makeover artist to create large-sized glamour shots of each other, which were shown in the Claim to Fame exhibition at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens
